Lower School
Alabama Christian Academy Lower School teaches 1st-5th students. While maintaining high academic standards, ACA serves the child through a holistic approach: daily Bible classes starting with Genesis through the Book of Acts and dedicated chapel lessons as well as weeklong art, guidance counseling, creative writing lab, music, and STEM classes all producing project based learning.
Students benefit from an open library and daily physical education conducted by a certified instructor. Every first grade student spends 30 minutes a day in small groups with a Reading Specialist trained in Ortin Gillingham practices. ACA’s Stanford Achievement scores consistently exceed national and state levels.
ACA students, faculty, and staff are better together. Philippians 4:12 We know how it feels to be in need and to have plenty. We have learned the secret of being content in every situation. We have a common bond that grows together, learns together, works together, and serves together to please God.

Counseling
Lower School students meet by classroom or in small groups each week with our Lower School counselor. We are dedicated to instilling in each ACA student a strong sense of Christian virtues, care for others, and high personal standards. Our Counselor leads students through curriculum, activities, and guided discussion to help each student discover their giftedness and find appropriate ways to steward their potential.
Each grade level has developmentally appropriate lessons that enrich academic pursuits. Discussions, games and many other interactive activities encourage the development of social skills and reinforce the lesson themes. Small counseling groups are planned as needs arise among a particular class or grade level. Possible group topics are building self-esteem, friendship skills, conflict resolution or classroom behavior and focus skills.
