Ever since softball was adopted as an official high school sport in the 1990s, Alabama Christian Academy has been synonymous with excellence. ACA is one of two schools in Alabama to record 10 state championships, the last one coming in 2019 before a global pandemic robbed the Eagles of a chance to repeat. The program advanced to the state tournament in all but one of the previous 23 seasons prior to last year, and the Eagles success has been guided by a pair of legendary coaches. Chris Goodman has led ACA since 2007, after he took the reins from Denise Ainsworth, who helped shape the sport in its early years of competition. ACA has regularly been recognized for producing all-state performers, and many have gone on to compete collegiately at schools such as Florida, Auburn, UAB and Faulkner. The success of the softball program has given ACA a well-earned presence throughout the state, and the ten state titles continue to serve as a benchmark among all AHSAA member schools.
